My Second Trip Out House Hunting
by Julian on Mar.04, 2009,under House Purchase
Ken and I exchanged some emails about potential houses and came up with a list, he had his and I had mine.
...
Actually, Ken had the list, but it included some properties that I wanted to look at as well. Problem was, the list was long and time was short. In all fairness to Ken, with my schedule we only had late afternoons to look at houses and a short afternoon at that, due to night fall.
We went with the "WOW Factor" search. If the property wow'ed me, we would look closer, if not we would move on. This guy shows houses like I shop.
There were some places that we didn't even get out of the car for. We looked at one place where the floor was sunk around the edges, looked like the outside of an upside down wok.
Another property we look at we met some other house hunters. They made a big fuss about some “Black Mold”. A couple of days later the house was delisted. I think it was put under contract. I didn’t matter to me, no wow factor.
Most the houses I passed on were really not ready for show. They included one where the house was dirty and I didn't like what was on the other side of the fence; one had a phone in the bathroom, unfinished downstairs, but no garage; another house close to a manufacturing plant and was also small.
We started to run out of daylight but there was one house I wanted to look at. It had a wagon wheel in the front yard. Since we were close by, we went over to check it out. The house had some trinkets throughout it. Sans the wagon wheel, there was nothing that special about it. The stove was old, washer machine looked old. My first impression was that I would be getting all new appliances. The house had a fireplace, central heat (gas) and a two car garage. However, with the garage, one of the doors was boarded up.
We looked at what would become the "Wagon Wheel" house after sunset and needed to come back for a more through look.
